Elevated VMA levels indicate excess production of adrenaline and noradrenaline in the body. 24-hour urine collection mandatory with preservative (HCl)
Avoid coffee, tea, chocolate, vanilla, banana, citrus fruits 48 hrs before and during collection
Avoid certain drugs (as advised by physician): Labetalol, Levodopa, Methyldopa, etc.
Keep container refrigerated during collection period
Record total urine volume on container
First morning urine discard, then collect all urine for next 24 hrs including next day first morning sample
