Urobilinogen is a byproduct of bilirubin metabolism formed in the intestine and partially reabsorbed into the bloodstream before being excreted in urine. This test helps evaluate liver function, hemolytic disorders, and biliary obstruction. Abnormal levels may indicate liver disease, hemolysis, or blockage of bile flow.
