Urine for Leukocyte Esterase is a routine urinalysis test used to detect the presence of leukocyte esterase enzyme released by white blood cells (WBCs) in urine. It serves as a screening marker for urinary tract infections (UTIs) and urinary inflammation. A positive leukocyte esterase test suggests pyuria (presence of WBCs), which may indicate bacterial infection, kidney infection, or inflammatory conditions of the urinary tract. This parameter is commonly included in automated urine dipstick analysis.
