Urine For Eosinophils ( CTP017 )

Description

Urine for Eosinophils is a microscopic test used to detect eosinophil white blood cells in urine sediment, primarily to support the diagnosis of allergic interstitial nephritis (AIN) and drug-induced renal injury. Using Hansel stain, eosinophils are highlighted by their characteristic orange-red granules, allowing differentiation from neutrophils and other cells.

This test is clinically valuable in patients presenting with acute kidney injury, fever, rash, eosinophilia, or recent exposure to medications such as antibiotics, NSAIDs, or proton pump inhibitors. Detection of urinary eosinophils, along with clinical findings and renal parameters, helps clinicians suspect hypersensitivity-related renal inflammation and guides timely withdrawal of the offending drug and further management.
