Urine For Bilirubin ( CP0019 )

Description

Urine Bilirubin test detects the presence of conjugated (direct) bilirubin in urine using a reagent dipstick method. Under normal conditions, bilirubin is not present in urine. Its detection indicates hepatobiliary dysfunction such as hepatitis, obstructive jaundice, cholestasis, or liver cell injury, where conjugated bilirubin leaks into the bloodstream and is excreted by the kidneys.

This test is a rapid, non-invasive screening tool that supports the evaluation of jaundice, abnormal liver function tests, dark urine, pale stools, and suspected bile duct obstruction. When interpreted alongside urobilinogen and liver enzymes, urine bilirubin helps clinicians differentiate between hepatic and obstructive causes of jaundice and decide further investigations.
