Description

Serum Uric Acid test measures the level of uric acid in blood to assess purine metabolism and evaluate conditions such as gout, hyperuricemia, kidney stone risk, and renal function disorders. Uric acid is the end product of purine breakdown, and elevated levels may lead to deposition of monosodium urate crystals in joints and tissues, causing painful inflammatory arthritis.

This test is widely used for diagnosing and monitoring gout, assessing patients with joint pain and swelling, evaluating recurrent renal stones, and monitoring therapy with urate-lowering drugs. It is also relevant in metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and renal impairment.
