Description

Uric Acid – Body Fluid test measures uric acid levels in fluids such as synovial (joint) fluid, pleural fluid, or other aspirated body fluids to support the diagnosis of gout, crystal-induced arthritis, and certain inflammatory conditions. In synovial fluid, elevated uric acid and the presence of needle-shaped monosodium urate crystals (seen under polarized microscopy) strongly indicate gouty arthritis.

This test is valuable in patients with acute joint pain, swelling, redness, or recurrent arthritis where crystal arthropathy is suspected. When combined with microscopy and clinical findings, fluid uric acid estimation helps differentiate gout from septic arthritis and other inflammatory joint disorders, guiding appropriate therapy.
