Urea / Creatinine Ratio is a calculated parameter used to evaluate kidney function and identify the underlying cause of abnormal renal markers. It compares serum urea (or Blood Urea Nitrogen – BUN) with serum creatinine levels. This ratio helps differentiate between prerenal, renal, and postrenal causes of kidney dysfunction. It is commonly assessed as part of a Renal Function Test (RFT) panel and aids in diagnosing dehydration, kidney failure, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
