Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC) is a blood test that measures the reserve capacity of transferrin available to bind additional iron. It reflects the portion of iron-binding sites on transferrin that are not currently occupied. UIBC is commonly used in the evaluation of iron deficiency anemia, iron overload disorders, and nutritional status. It is typically interpreted alongside serum iron, TIBC, and ferritin levels.
