Troponin I (Qualitative) is a rapid cardiac marker test used to detect the presence of cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) in blood. It is commonly used as an emergency screening test to help assess suspected heart attack (myocardial infarction), acute coronary syndrome (ACS), chest pain, cardiac muscle injury, and ischemic heart disease. Troponin I is a highly specific biomarker released into the bloodstream when there is damage to heart muscle cells. A qualitative Troponin I test usually provides a Positive or Negative result and is often performed by rapid immunochromatographic assay or point-of-care testing (POCT). It is useful in emergency and critical care settings for quick clinical decision-making, but abnormal or borderline results may require confirmation with quantitative Troponin I or high-sensitivity troponin testing and serial repeat testing as advised by the physician.
