Troponin I (Qualitative) (SR0019)

Description

Troponin I (Qualitative) is a rapid cardiac marker test used to detect the presence of cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) in blood. It is commonly used as an emergency screening test to help assess suspected heart attack (myocardial infarction), acute coronary syndrome (ACS), chest pain, cardiac muscle injury, and ischemic heart disease. Troponin I is a highly specific biomarker released into the bloodstream when there is damage to heart muscle cells. A qualitative Troponin I test usually provides a Positive or Negative result and is often performed by rapid immunochromatographic assay or point-of-care testing (POCT). It is useful in emergency and critical care settings for quick clinical decision-making, but abnormal or borderline results may require confirmation with quantitative Troponin I or high-sensitivity troponin testing and serial repeat testing as advised by the physician.

Pre-Test Instructions:

  • No fasting required
Preferred in emergency / chest pain / suspected heart attack cases
Sample can be collected as whole blood, serum, or plasma depending on test kit
For serum/plasma, collect in plain tube / SST / heparin / EDTA tube as per lab protocol
Avoid hemolyzed, clotted, or contaminated samples
If result is negative in very early chest pain, repeat testing may be required after 3–6 hours because troponin may not rise immediately
Qualitative Troponin I is a screening test; if clinically indicated, confirm with Quantitative Troponin I / High-Sensitivity Troponin
Always interpret with ECG findings, symptoms, clinical history, and physician evaluation
