Triglycerides (TG) Test measures the amount of triglycerides, a type of fat, present in your blood. Triglycerides are used by the body as a source of energy, but when their level becomes too high, they can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular problems. This test is usually done as part of a Lipid Profile to assess overall heart health.
High triglyceride levels are often linked to unhealthy diet, obesity, diabetes, lack of exercise, smoking, and excess alcohol intake. This test helps in identifying heart risk, monitoring lipid disorders, and evaluating the effectiveness of lifestyle changes or treatment. A fasting sample for 9–12 hours is generally preferred for accurate results.
