Transferrin Saturation (TSAT) is a calculated parameter that reflects the percentage of transferrin (iron-transport protein) that is bound with iron. It is derived from serum iron and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) and provides valuable information about iron availability in the body. TSAT is commonly used in the evaluation of iron deficiency anemia, anemia of chronic disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and iron overload disorders such as hemochromatosis.
