Toxoplasma IgM (IA0162)

Description

Toxoplasma IgM is a serological blood test used to detect Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii, the parasite responsible for toxoplasmosis. This test helps in the early diagnosis of acute or recent toxoplasma infection and is especially important in pregnant women, newborn evaluation, immunocompromised patients, and individuals with suspected active toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasma IgM antibodies generally appear early after infection and may indicate recent exposure, although results should always be interpreted alongside Toxoplasma IgG and clinical findings for accurate diagnosis. The test is commonly included in TORCH screening panels and infectious disease evaluations.

Avoid hemolyzed, lipemic, heat-inactivated, or contaminated samples
IgM testing should ideally be interpreted together with Toxoplasma IgG for proper clinical assessment
A positive IgM with negative IgG may require repeat testing after 1–2 weeks or confirmatory testing due to possible false-positive/reactive results
Particularly important in pregnancy, TORCH screening, and suspected recent infection
