Total Bile Acids (TBA) (BI115)

Description

The Total Bile Acids (TBA) test measures the concentration of bile acids in the blood. Bile acids are produced by the liver and help digest and absorb dietary fats. Elevated bile acid levels may indicate impaired liver function, reduced bile flow (cholestasis), bile duct obstruction, or liver diseases such as hepatitis and cirrhosis. The test is especially valuable in diagnosing and monitoring Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP), a liver condition that occurs during pregnancy.
