Description

Stool Routine Examination is a laboratory test used to evaluate stool (feces) for physical, chemical, and microscopic characteristics. It helps diagnose gastrointestinal infections, parasitic infestations, inflammation, malabsorption disorders, and gastrointestinal bleeding. The test assesses color, consistency, mucus, blood, ova, cysts, parasites, pus cells, and undigested food particles. It is commonly recommended for diarrhea, abdominal pain, suspected intestinal infections, and digestive disorders.

Pre-Test Instructions:

  • Collect fresh morning sample if possible
  • Avoid contamination with urine or water
  • Avoid laxatives, barium studies, or antibiotics before collection (if possible)
  • Inform laboratory if patient is on antiparasitic medication
  • For parasite detection, 3 samples on alternate days may be recommended
