Starch Granules in stool are detected during microscopic examination and indicate the presence of undigested carbohydrates. Normally, starch is digested and absorbed in the small intestine. Increased starch granules in stool (amylorrhea) may suggest carbohydrate malabsorption, pancreatic insufficiency, rapid intestinal transit, or digestive enzyme deficiency. This parameter is evaluated as part of Routine Stool Examination (R/E).
