RBCs (Red Blood Cells) in urine are evaluated during urine sediment microscopy to detect hematuria (blood in urine). A small number of RBCs may be considered normal, but increased levels can indicate urinary tract infections, kidney stones, glomerular disease, trauma, or other renal abnormalities. Microscopic evaluation helps determine the severity and possible origin of bleeding within the urinary tract.
