Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) – Free is a blood test that measures the unbound (free) fraction of PSA circulating in the bloodstream. It is primarily used alongside total PSA to improve the specificity of prostate cancer screening and to help differentiate between benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer. The free-to-total PSA ratio is an important parameter in assessing prostate cancer risk, particularly when total PSA levels are mildly elevated.
