The Prolactin test measures the level of prolactin, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland. Prolactin primarily stimulates breast development and milk production after childbirth, but it also plays an important role in reproductive health in both women and men. Abnormal prolactin levels may indicate pituitary disorders, infertility, menstrual irregularities, erectile dysfunction, or abnormal breast milk production (galactorrhea).
