Porphobilinogen (PBG) – Qualitative (Urine) is a screening test used to detect the presence of porphobilinogen in urine. Elevated urinary PBG levels are strongly associated with acute porphyrias, particularly Acute Intermittent Porphyria (AIP). This test is useful in patients presenting with unexplained abdominal pain, neuropsychiatric symptoms, neuropathy, or dark-colored urine. Early detection supports prompt diagnosis and management of acute porphyric attacks.
