Parasites in urine are detected during microscopic examination of urine sediment and may indicate parasitic infections of the urinary tract. The most commonly identified parasite in urine is Schistosoma haematobium, which can cause urinary schistosomiasis. Detection of parasites is clinically significant and requires prompt medical evaluation. This parameter is assessed as part of Routine Urine Examination (R/E) when clinically suspected.
