Description

PAPP-A (Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein-A) is a maternal blood test primarily used in the first trimester screening for chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) and Trisomy 18. PAPP-A is a placental protein measured between 11 and 13 weeks of gestation and is interpreted along with free β-hCG and ultrasound nuchal translucency (NT) measurement. Abnormal levels may also be associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), and preterm birth.
