Modified AFB Stain (Coccidian Parasites) is a special microscopic staining technique used to detect acid-fast oocysts of intestinal coccidian parasites such as Cryptosporidium, Cystoisospora belli (Isospora), and Cyclospora cayetanensis in stool samples. It is commonly performed in cases of persistent or watery diarrhea, especially in immunocompromised individuals. The modified acid-fast (Ziehl–Neelsen) stain enhances visualization of parasite oocysts under microscopy and aids in the diagnosis of opportunistic parasitic infections.
