Microcytic RBC refers to red blood cells that are smaller than normal in size, typically identified during peripheral smear examination or suggested by a low Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) on Complete Blood Count (CBC). Microcytosis is commonly associated with iron deficiency anemia, thalassemia, chronic disease anemia, and certain hereditary conditions. Detection of microcytic RBCs helps guide further diagnostic evaluation, including iron studies and hemoglobin electrophoresis.
