Macrocytic RBC refers to red blood cells that are larger than normal in size. This condition is usually identified during a complete blood count (CBC) when the Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) is elevated, typically above 100 fL. Macrocytosis may occur due to vitamin B12 deficiency, folate deficiency, liver disease, alcoholism, hypothyroidism, or bone marrow disorders. It is often associated with macrocytic anemia and is evaluated further using peripheral blood smear, vitamin B12 levels, folate levels, and other hematological tests.
