Macrocytic RBC (HM0226)

Description

Macrocytic RBC refers to red blood cells that are larger than normal in size, usually identified during a complete blood count (CBC) or peripheral blood smear examination. This condition is associated with an increased Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), typically greater than 100 fL. Macrocytosis commonly occurs due to vitamin B12 deficiency, folate deficiency, liver disease, alcoholism, hypothyroidism, or bone marrow disorders. Detection of macrocytic RBCs helps in the diagnosis and evaluation of macrocytic anemia and related hematological conditions.
