The LDL/HDL ratio compares the levels of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol to HDL (“good”) cholesterol in the blood. This ratio is an important indicator of cardiovascular risk. A higher ratio suggests a greater proportion of harmful LDL cholesterol relative to protective HDL cholesterol, increasing the likelihood of atherosclerosis, heart attack, and stroke. Conversely, a lower ratio reflects better heart health. It complements other lipid profile tests and provides a more nuanced assessment of cardiovascular risk than LDL or HDL alone.
