IHC – CD79a is an immunohistochemistry (IHC) tissue marker test used in histopathology to detect CD79a antigen expression in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections. CD79a is a B-cell lineage marker expressed in B lymphocytes from early precursor stages through plasma cells, and it is widely used in the diagnosis, classification, and phenotyping of B-cell lymphomas, leukemias, plasma cell neoplasms, and chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. This stain helps pathologists confirm B-cell origin in suspected hematolymphoid malignancies and is often used as part of an IHC panel along with markers such as CD20, PAX5, CD3, CD138, CD10, BCL6, MUM1, and Ki-67. Mayo Clinic Laboratories notes CD79a stains the cytoplasm and membrane of B lymphocytes and is diagnostically useful for demonstrating B-cell lineage in acute lymphoblastic leukemia, malignant lymphomas, and chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. It is performed by Immunohistochemistry (IHC) on paraffin-embedded tissue, with a typical report availability of 1–3 days.
