Haemoglobin (HB) ( HM0043 )

Description

The Hemoglobin (Hb) test measures the concentration of hemoglobin in blood, the iron-containing protein in red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. This test is essential for diagnosing anemia, polycythemia, nutritional deficiencies, blood loss, chronic diseases, and monitoring overall hematological health. It is routinely performed as part of a Complete Blood Count (CBC) and helps assess the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood, detect underlying disorders, and monitor treatment response in various medical conditions.

Conversely, elevated hemoglobin levels may indicate polycythemia, dehydration, chronic lung disease, or adaptation to high altitudes. Monitoring Hb levels is also important in patients with chronic kidney disease, malignancies, nutritional deficiencies, pregnancy, and those undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy.
