GAMMA - GLUTAMYL TRANSFERASE (GGT) (BI066)

Description

The Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) test measures the level of GGT, an enzyme found primarily in the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, and kidneys. GGT plays a role in amino acid transport and glutathione metabolism. Elevated GGT levels are commonly associated with liver disease, bile duct obstruction, excessive alcohol consumption, and certain medications. The test is frequently performed as part of a Liver Function Test (LFT) panel to help identify hepatobiliary disorders and determine whether an elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is of liver origin.
