eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) is a calculated test used to assess kidney function by estimating how well the kidneys filter waste products from the blood. It is derived from serum creatinine level along with age and sex (and sometimes race, depending on equation used). eGFR helps in early detection, staging, and monitoring of chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury, diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive nephropathy, and other renal disorders. It is routinely included in renal function tests and is essential for evaluating kidney health and guiding treatment decisions.
