EBV Nuclear Antigen (EBNA) IgG Antibodies is a serological blood test used to detect IgG antibodies against Epstein-Barr Virus Nuclear Antigen (EBNA). This test helps identify past or previous Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection and is commonly used in the evaluation of infectious mononucleosis (mono) and EBV serology interpretation. EBNA IgG antibodies usually appear 2–4 months after primary infection and generally remain positive for life, making this test useful for distinguishing past infection from acute or recent EBV infection when interpreted along with VCA IgM and VCA IgG. It is helpful in clinical assessment of unexplained fever, lymphadenopathy, fatigue, and EBV immune status.
