Dengue NS1 Antigen (ELISA) (IO0052)

Description

Dengue NS1 Antigen (ELISA) is a diagnostic blood test used for the early detection of dengue virus infection by identifying the presence of the non-structural protein 1 (NS1) antigen in the blood. This test is most useful during the acute phase of dengue infection, especially within the first 0–7 days of fever onset, when the NS1 antigen is detectable in serum. Dengue NS1 ELISA is widely used for the timely diagnosis of dengue fever, helping clinicians initiate early management and differentiate dengue from other febrile illnesses. It is considered a valuable confirmatory tool in clinically suspected dengue cases and is often performed alongside dengue IgM/IgG antibody testing for improved diagnostic accuracy.

Pre-Test Instructions:

  • Best collected during the first 1–7 days of fever / symptom onset
  • No fasting required
  • Collect blood in plain / red-top tube
  • Allow clotting and separate serum promptly
  • Avoid hemolyzed, lipemic, or contaminated samples
  • A negative NS1 result does not rule out dengue; if clinically suspected, IgM ELISA and/or PCR may be advised
  • CDC recommends NS1 testing as part of early dengue diagnosis in the acute phase (0–7 days), often alongside IgM testing.
