Dengue IgM Antibody (EIA) is a serological blood test used to detect IgM antibodies against Dengue virus in serum, helping in the diagnosis of recent or acute dengue infection. This test is commonly performed using Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) / ELISA / MAC-ELISA methodology and is especially useful in patients with fever, body pain, headache, retro-orbital pain, rash, thrombocytopenia, or suspected mosquito-borne viral infection. Dengue IgM antibodies generally become detectable 4–5 days after symptom onset and may remain detectable for up to about 3 months. During the first 0–7 days of illness, this test is often recommended together with Dengue NS1 antigen or NAAT/PCR, because early IgM can still be negative. A positive result suggests presumptive recent dengue infection, but interpretation should consider cross-reactivity with other flaviviruses such as Zika, West Nile, or Yellow Fever.
