Description

The Serum Chloride test measures the concentration of chloride, one of the body's major electrolytes, in the blood. Chloride works together with sodium, potassium, and bicarbonate to maintain fluid balance, acid-base balance, osmotic pressure, and normal nerve and muscle function. This test is commonly included in an electrolyte panel and helps evaluate dehydration, kidney disorders, metabolic acidosis or alkalosis, and other conditions affecting electrolyte balance.
