The CA 15-3 (Cancer Antigen 15-3) test measures the level of CA 15-3, a protein released by certain breast cancer cells, in the blood. It is primarily used to monitor treatment response, assess disease progression, and detect recurrence in patients with diagnosed breast cancer, particularly advanced or metastatic disease. This test is not recommended as a screening or diagnostic test for breast cancer because CA 15-3 levels may also be elevated in some benign conditions and other cancers.
