The C-Peptide (Random) test measures the amount of C-peptide in the blood, which reflects the body's natural insulin production. Since C-peptide is released in equal amounts with insulin, it helps evaluate pancreatic beta-cell function and distinguish between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. It is also useful in assessing insulin resistance, monitoring insulin-producing tumors (insulinoma), and evaluating residual pancreatic function.
