Brucella IgM Antibody ( ML0005 )

Description

Brucella IgM Antibody test is a blood test used to detect IgM antibodies produced by the immune system in response to a recent or active infection caused by Brucella bacteria. Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease transmitted from animals to humans, commonly through direct contact with infected livestock or consumption of unpasteurized dairy products. The disease often presents with non-specific symptoms such as fever, chills, sweating, fatigue, headache, joint pain, and muscle aches, making laboratory testing essential for accurate diagnosis.

The presence of Brucella IgM antibodies usually indicates an early or acute stage of infection. This test is particularly useful in patients with recent onset of symptoms, unexplained fever, or suspected exposure to Brucella organisms. Early detection allows timely initiation of appropriate treatment, which helps prevent complications such as arthritis, bone involvement, liver disorders, neurological complications, and chronic infection. Brucella IgM testing also supports differentiation between recent infection and past exposure when used alongside IgG antibody testing.
