Anti-Thyroglobulin Antibody (Anti-Tg Ab) test detects autoantibodies directed against thyroglobulin, a key protein in thyroid hormone synthesis. These antibodies are commonly elevated in autoimmune thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease and are also used in the follow-up of differentiated thyroid cancer where Anti-Tg can interfere with thyroglobulin measurement.
The test supports diagnosis of autoimmune thyroiditis in patients with abnormal TSH, goiter, hypothyroid or hyperthyroid symptoms, and helps clinicians interpret thyroglobulin results during thyroid cancer surveillance. Performed by immunoassay (e.g., CLIA/ELISA), Anti-Tg Ab provides important insight into thyroid autoimmunity and disease monitoring.
