Description

Anti-Streptolysin O (ASO) Titre test estimates the antibody titre against streptolysin O toxin produced by Streptococcus pyogenes using serial dilution (titre) methodology. A rising ASO titre indicates recent streptococcal infection and supports the diagnosis of post-streptococcal complications such as rheumatic fever, rheumatic heart disease, and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.

Titre testing is especially useful when paired samples are tested 10–14 days apart to demonstrate a significant rise in antibodies. This method provides a semi-quantitative assessment helpful in correlating clinical symptoms like joint pain, fever, carditis, or renal involvement after sore throat or skin infection.
