Anti-Phospholipid IgM Antibodies test detects IgM class autoantibodies against phospholipid-binding proteins and is used in the evaluation of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). These antibodies are linked to abnormal clot formation, recurrent pregnancy loss, stillbirths, and autoimmune disorders such as lupus.
Performed commonly by ELISA, this test supports APS diagnosis when correlated with clinical history and other laboratory markers (e.g., lupus anticoagulant, anti-cardiolipin). It is especially useful in patients with unexplained thrombosis, pregnancy complications, or prolonged clotting times. As per recommendations, repeat testing after ≥12 weeks may be required to confirm persistence.
