The Anti-Glomerular Basement Membrane (Anti-GBM) Antibody test detects autoantibodies directed against the glomerular basement membrane of the kidneys. These antibodies are highly associated with Anti-GBM disease (Goodpasture syndrome), a rare autoimmune disorder that can cause rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) and pulmonary hemorrhage. Early detection is essential because prompt diagnosis and treatment can help prevent irreversible kidney damage and life-threatening lung complications.
