Anti-DNase B Test is a serological blood test used to detect antibodies against deoxyribonuclease B (DNase B) produced by Group A Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes). This test helps provide evidence of a recent or past streptococcal infection, especially when evaluating post-streptococcal complications such as acute rheumatic fever, post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, scarlet fever, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and skin infections such as impetigo. Anti-DNase B antibodies often rise later than ASO (Antistreptolysin O) but can remain elevated longer and may be particularly useful when ASO is normal, especially after skin-related streptococcal infections. The test is commonly performed by nephelometry or immunonephelometry using a serum sample, and results are usually reported as a titer or quantitative U/mL value. Labcorp states the test is used to provide evidence of an existing or past streptococcal infection, while Mayo notes it is useful for demonstrating acute or recent streptococcal infection and may be especially valuable when used alongside ASO testing.
