Amylase ( BC0033 )

Description

Serum Amylase test measures the level of amylase enzyme in blood to evaluate pancreatic function and diagnose conditions such as acute pancreatitis, pancreatic inflammation, salivary gland disorders, and abdominal pain of unknown origin. Amylase is primarily produced by the pancreas and salivary glands and plays a key role in carbohydrate digestion.

Elevated serum amylase levels are commonly associated with acute pancreatitis, pancreatic duct obstruction, gallstones, and mumps, while decreased levels may be seen in chronic pancreatic damage. This test is often ordered along with serum lipase for better diagnostic accuracy in pancreatic disorders. Early detection through amylase testing helps clinicians initiate prompt treatment and prevent complications.
