Description

Amylase – Body Fluid test measures amylase enzyme levels in fluids such as pleural, ascitic, or other aspirated body fluids to help identify pancreatic leaks, pancreatic ascites, esophageal rupture, and certain malignancies. Elevated amylase in pleural or ascitic fluid is strongly associated with pancreatic disease, including pancreatitis and pancreatic duct disruption, and may also be seen in esophageal perforation and some cancers.

This test is valuable in the diagnostic workup of unexplained effusions and abdominal collections. When interpreted with serum amylase, imaging, and clinical findings, fluid amylase helps clinicians pinpoint the source of pathology and guide further management.
