Ammonium Biurate Crystals are brownish-yellow, spherical crystals with characteristic “thorn-apple” spicule projections seen in urine sediment microscopy. They are commonly found in alkaline or old urine samples and may be associated with urinary tract infections caused by urea-splitting bacteria. While they can occasionally appear in normal urine, increased numbers may indicate urinary stasis, infection, or improper specimen storage. This parameter is assessed as part of routine urine microscopy.
