Description

Aldosterone Renin Ratio (ARR) measures plasma aldosterone and direct renin to screen for primary hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome) in resistant hypertension and hypokalemia. This test helps identify inappropriate aldosterone excess and guides further confirmatory evaluation and management.

Pre-Test Instructions:

  • Maintain a normal salt diet for at least 2 weeks before testing.
  • Discontinue interfering medications (e.g., diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, oral contraceptives, and certain antihypertensives) in consultation with your doctor.
  • Blood sample is preferably collected mid-morning after the patient has been upright (sitting/standing) for at least 30 minutes.
  • Avoid excessive stress and strenuous physical activity before sample collection.
